Inheritance of Seed and Seed Coat Characters in Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. et. Nakai)



Abstract
Genetic analysis was conducted for seed length, seed clump, seed flecking, seed coat color and seed dot characters with F©û, F©ü, and BC©ûF©û generation in watermelon. Linkage relationships between seed coat color and seed flecking, and seed length and seed dot were analysed. Short length characteristic was dominant to medium length, and its expression was goverened by single dominant gene. Clump characteristic was single dominant to clumpless seed and flecking seed was single dominant to nonflecking seed. Black seed coat was dominant to brown seed coat and single dominant gene was related. Seed dot was dominant to seed nondot. Seeds with black and flecking color were independent to brown and nonflecking seeds in inheritance. Also seed length and seed dot gene showed complete linkage relationship.
